Valerie Keogh is an Irish-born crime fiction author now based in Wiltshire whose prolific output and talent for psychological suspense have made her one of the most popular writers in the genre.
Born in Dublin, Keogh attended University College Dublin, where she earned a BA in English and an MA in American Literature. She worked as a nurse before turning to writing full-time — a career that gave her insight into human behaviour under stress that enriches her fiction.
The Dublin Murder Mysteries series, featuring Garda detective Mike West, comprises six gritty, atmospheric novels set in the suburbs of Dublin. Deadly Sleep (2014) was her first published novel, and she went on to self-publish eight crime novels and a psychological thriller before signing with Bookouture in 2018, which accelerated her career significantly.
Her standalone psychological thrillers — including The Nurse, The Lodger, The Perfect Life, and The Bookseller — are tightly plotted, twist-driven stories that explore obsession, deception, and the darkness lurking beneath ordinary surfaces. The Little Lies was nominated for the Crime Fiction Lovers Award for Best Indie Crime Novel in 2021.
With over thirty published books, Keogh is remarkably prolific, but her work maintains a consistent quality — sharp plotting, believable characters, and endings that genuinely surprise. She writes the kind of thrillers you read in a single sitting.
The audiobook editions of Keogh's novels are gripping listens — perfectly paced for suspense. Her books and audiobooks are ideal for fans of psychological thrillers, Irish crime fiction, and authors who keep you guessing until the final page.
