Vince Cable is a British politician, economist, and author who served as Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills in the UK coalition government from 2010 to 2015 and as Leader of the Liberal Democrats from 2017 to 2019. Born in 1943 in York, he studied economics at Cambridge and went on to build a career that spanned academia, international development, and frontline politics.
Before entering Parliament as MP for Twickenham in 1997, Cable worked as a chief economist for Shell and as an economic adviser to the Kenyan government, giving him an unusually broad perspective on the relationship between markets, power, and policy. In Parliament, he gained widespread public recognition for his prescient warnings about the financial crisis of 2008.
His book Money and Power examines how the relationship between economics and politics has shaped the modern world, drawing on historical examples and his own considerable experience to explore how financial systems and political decisions interact, often with profound consequences for ordinary people.
Cable is the author of several other books on economics and politics, and is recognised as one of the most intellectually serious figures in recent British political life. His works are available as both books and audiobooks, with the audiobook editions offering listeners access to his authoritative analysis in an engaging format. Sir Vince Cable continues to write, teach, and contribute to public debate on economics and governance.
