Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) was a Scottish novelist, poet and historian who is widely considered the inventor of the historical novel. Born in Edinburgh, he first gained fame as a poet before turning to prose fiction, producing a string of hugely influential novels including Ivanhoe, Rob Roy and Waverley. His work shaped how the world imagined Scotland and the Middle Ages.
The Bride of Lammermoor is a dark, tragic tale of doomed love set in the Scottish Lowlands, and is among Scott's most powerful novels. It inspired Donizetti's opera Lucia di Lammermoor and remains a masterpiece of Romantic fiction.
His audiobooks and books bring Scott's sweeping historical narratives to life, offering listeners some of the most vivid and influential storytelling in the English language.
