Yoko Tawada is a Japanese-German author who writes in both Japanese and German, making her one of the most unusual and celebrated literary voices in contemporary world literature. Exophony explores the experience of writing and living between languages, examining what happens to thought, identity and creativity when a writer works outside their mother tongue. The book is a meditation on language, translation and the unique perspective that comes from inhabiting the space between two linguistic worlds.
Available as both a book and an audiobook, Exophony offers fascinating listening and reading for anyone interested in language, literature, translation and the creative possibilities that emerge when a writer chooses to think and write in a language that is not their own.
