David Tennant is a Scottish actor who became one of the most popular Doctor Who actors in the show's history, playing the Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010 and returning for specials in 2023. Born David McDonald in Bathgate, West Lothian, he trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and took his stage name from Pet Shop Boys... singer Neil Tennant. Tennant's career extends far beyond Doctor Who. On television, he has starred in Broadchurch, Jessica Jones, Good Omens (as the demon Crowley), Des, and Around the World in 80 Days. On stage, he played Hamlet for the RSC in a production that transferred to the West End and was filmed for television, and Richard II at the RSC to great acclaim. His film credits include Fright Night, Mary Queen of Scots, and Mad to Be Normal. He is also an accomplished voice actor, appearing in animated series and video games.
