Nina Stibbe is a British author and memoirist whose wickedly funny writing about ordinary English life has earned her comparisons to Alan Bennett and Victoria Wood. Born in Leicester in 1962, she moved to London as a young woman and worked as a nanny for the playwright Mary-Kay Wilmers, then editor of the London Review of Books — an experience that provided the material for her first book. Stibbe's debut memoir Love, Nina: Despatches from Family Life — based on letters she wrote to her sister during her time as a nanny in a Camden Town household frequented by literary luminaries including Alan Bennett — won the Non-Fiction Book of the Year at the National Book Awards and was adapted for BBC television. Her subsequent books include Paradise Lodge, Reasons to Be Cheerful, and An Almost Perfect Christmas, a warm and funny collection of festive memories. Her audiobooks and books offer listeners and readers English comedy at its driest and most observant — stories that find hilarity in the mundane, told with a deadpan wit that makes the ordinary seem miraculous.
