Stephen Fry is a British actor, writer, comedian, presenter, and narrator whose extraordinary range of talents has made him one of the most recognisable and beloved figures in British public life. He is also, for millions of listeners worldwide, the definitive voice of the Harry Potter audiobooks — a contribution to audiobook culture that is hard to overstate. Born in Hampstead, London in 1957, Fry was raised in Norfolk and educated at Uppingham School and Queens' College, Cambridge, where he met his long-time creative partner Hugh Laurie. Together, they became one of the most celebrated comedy double acts in British television history with A Bit of Fry & Laurie and their appearances in Blackadder. Fry went on to host QI for sixteen years, present numerous documentaries, and build a career as one of the most accomplished and in-demand actors in British film and television. As a writer, Fry has produced novels (The Liar, The Hippopotamus, Making History, The Stars' Tennis Balls), as well as a celebrated series of memoirs: Moab Is My Washpot, The Fry Chronicles, and More Fool Me. His retelling of Greek myths — Mythos, Heroes, and Troy — became massive international bestsellers and introduced classical mythology to a whole new generation of readers and listeners. These books combine scholarship with Fry's trademark warmth, wit, and storytelling flair. His narration of the complete Harry Potter series for the UK audiobook editions has become iconic. Fry's ability to voice hundreds of characters — from Dumbledore's gentle wisdom to Hagrid's West Country warmth to Snape's silky menace — is a masterclass in audiobook performance. These recordings have sold millions of copies and are, for many fans, inseparable from the experience of the stories themselves. Fry has been open about his struggles with bipolar disorder and his mental health, speaking with characteristic eloquence and honesty about experiences that have helped reduce stigma and encourage others to seek help. He has received numerous honours, including a BAFTA and several honorary degrees, and was appointed to the Order of the British Empire. He married Elliott Spencer in 2015. Stephen Fry's books and audiobooks span comedy, memoir, mythology, and fiction — and in every format, his intelligence, generosity of spirit, and sheer love of language shine through. He is a national treasure in the truest sense.
