T. S. Eliot was an American-born British poet, essayist, publisher, playwright, and literary critic, widely regarded as one of the most important poets of the twentieth century. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1888, he moved to England in 1914 and became a British citizen in 1927. His major works include The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, The Waste Land, and Four Quartets. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1948. His Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats was the basis for the musical Cats. He died in 1965.
