What to expect
Average Joe takes to the wilderness to track down Bigfoot and become a school legend in this brilliantly funny adventure from Lollie Award winning author Jenny Pearson.
Joe is tired of being called average and feeling completely forgettable at school. So when he hears that a Bigfoot-like beast has been spotted in some nearby woods, he senses an opportunity. Surely capturing Bigfoot will make him stand out from the crowd and bring him the popularity he longs for?
With no real plan or survival skills, Joe and his best friend Tiago set off on what turns out to be an unforgettably hilarious quest with some very unexpected results!
Particularly suitable for readers aged 9+ with a reading age of 8.
Critics Review
-
"A dyslexia-friendly funny read for anyone who has ever thought they’d easily survive in the wilderness — take the incident with the foraging as your warning to leave it to the professionals!" – Irish Examiner
-
"Pearson’s survival adventure is comedic bordering on farcical and shows strong friendship between the boys … the author encourages readers to question media portrayals of people they admire. This is a healthy idea to place in the minds of young readers aged nine upwards. They are likely to laugh uproariously." – Books for Keeps
-
Books for Keeps 2.pdf (page 29)"A delightfully fun adventure story, with just the right level of peril for young readers." — LoveReading4Schools
-
"A hilarious, wilderness adventure which will definitely make readers appreciate their home comforts as well as enjoy the great outdoors (minus eating a slug and tummy troubles in the bush!). With Jenny’s stories, you know you get belly laughs and plenty of heart, which Bigfoot and the Wild Boys has in abundance." — Check 'Em Out Books, blog

"A funny yet thoughtful story of the importance of self-belief and integrity. It’s better to be true to yourself than someone false and the only person whose opinion really matters is your own. Maybe Joe isn’t so average after all." — Scope for Imagination, blog
-
"Bigfoot and the Wild Boys is great fun, as one would expect from this author, but it also conveys a wise message about popularity and the importance of one’s own self-esteem rather than others’ opinions." — A Library Lady, blog
