What to expect

Vienna 1903. An operatic diva, Ida Rosenkrantz, is found dead. It appears that she has taken an overdose, but a broken rib suggests more sinister possibilities. Detective Inspector Oskar Rheinhardt seeks the assistance of his young friend, the psychoanalyst Dr. Max Liebermann, and they begin their inquiries. As the mystery unravels, the investigators are placed in great personal danger, and corruption is exposed at the very highest levels.

Shame about Gordon Griffin, whose German is excuciating. The first two volumes in the series (not available on xigxag) were narrated (and sung!) extremely competently by Richard Burnip, and I cannot understand the switch to Griffin from vol. 3 onwards. Yes, he is otherwise very good, but for books which contain liberal and long quotations from German language poetry, Lieder and contemporary science, as well as Austrian proper names and places, not to forget pastries and other delicacies, one would have expected the narrator to be at least passably proficient in that language. Are there no coaches to help train narrators?
