What to expect
Cornwall is in the grip of a housing crisis. A crisis which threatens the future of a place many hold dear. But what does this even mean in a corner of the UK many regard as a rural idyl, somewhere to escape to, a place of romance? How does it affect the different people who live in Cornwall? And, importantly, what can be done given Cornwall is not alone in facing such a challenge.
Using storytelling, data, poetry, pictures and song Hope for Cornwall tells the story of Cornwall’s housing crisis with reality and hope but without blame. It does this across seven chapters which each explore a different aspect of the crisis. Along the way we meet a traveller returning to Cornwall… People affected by the crisis, rich, poor and everything in-between… The sky… And Cornwall themselves, fielding questions during a radio interview!
Based on research with experts, lived experience and on data, Hope for Cornwall is designed to engage both head and heart. It was researched, written and illustrated by Helen Trevaskis. And commissioned in 2024 by Homes for Cornwall, a cross-sector movement determined to be part of the change Cornwall needs for all those who call this place home.
The audiobook also includes music from a song called "Cornwall My Home" written in 1997 by Harry Glasson
