“I Invited Her In” was gripping- I was hooked, even staying up late listening to the audiobook. That said, I found it very predictable. So many twists felt cliché, and I could see what was coming. The characters frustrated me, especially the lead, and the ending didn’t satisfy. Worse, the author laboured certain points so long- too much detail, backstory, and tangents. It dragged on, and I was fighting the urge to skip forward. *spoiler alert* On top of that, it glossed over the fact that Liam was groomed- a 38-year-old taking advantage of a 17-year-old. It raised serious ethical concerns for me. Even worse, it romanticised the grooming, portraying it as sexy rather than addressing how wrong it was. The emotional impact on him wasn’t explored. The book didn’t take responsibility, and that felt irresponsible. So, though it kept me listening, I’d give it a 3 out of 5.
