Killer's Island

Synopsis

'Sophisticated depictions of human frailty, both among the police and civilians, make this a memorable read.' - Publishers Weekly He sees everything. He knows your secrets. And he's waiting for you to walk into the light. From a darkened room, a predator watches the inhabitants of Gotland island through a satellite feed. To him, they are merely superstitious, unintelligent creatures whose lives he can snuff out with a single keystroke. He doesn't just want to kill; he wants the god-like pleasure of watching the police fail. An early morning discovery in Visby's Botanic Garden reveals a woman dressed as a bride, murdered in a ritual that mirrors the ancient Gotlandic myth of the 'White Sea-Lady' -a vengeful spirit who lures men to their deaths. As Detective Inspector Maria Wern and her colleagues work on the case, they realize they are trapped in an uneven struggle. The killer has a technical know-how that exceeds anything the department has ever seen. He is observing every step the police take, anticipating every move, and turning the picturesque island into a digital panopticon. In a world where privacy is dead and evil is closer than the nearest screen, Maria Wern must find a way to blind the all-seeing eye before she - and everyone she loves - is caught in his final frame. 'sure to be a hit with avid fans of Scandinavian crime fiction. Book clubs will find that this story provides many current and relevant topics to discuss.' - Library Journal
