Although the book is wonderfully narrated (seriously, the narrator gives great character to everyone he voices and has a voice that makes me want to listen), and the authors descriptions are good, I was not able to get past the halfway point. The pacing of the book and when things are explained do not correlate with good fantasy writing, in my opinion. I was left wondering what certain things meant, why characters acted the way they did, and why elements of the plot mattered; often I would be waiting to understand why anything was happening but left with no context or backstory.

I think the writer rushed the characters to being a couple, and possibly was more interested in writing sex scenes than anything else.

However, the positives are there as described and I hope the writer continues with their craft and can write more interesting and well paced books, with LGBT+ characters and themes still, going forward.
