The antagonistic back and forth between Cassie and DS Phyllida Flyte was really fun with Cassie trying to needle her into investigating things so she could get answers. I enjoyed watching Phyllida continue to develop from book 1 and face up to some hard things. I loved the magical realism elements of the book with Cassie's observation skills and intuition as she hears the words of some of her guests in the mortuary. The interplay between this and Cassie's scientific mindset was really interesting.
This is the first x-book I've read and it was great to be able to go to the text and look up something I missed or a phrase I particularly loved. I also enjoyed being able to look up how the Polish and Latin words were spelt. I can't wait to listen to book 3 Case Sensitive.
