This book was mediocre for many reasons - clunky dialogue, cardboard characterisation, especially poor representations of working class characters (no surprise really - middle class writers usually do a poor job of delivering people they know nothing about). But the worst thing was the narration - absolutely execrable. Every working class character sounded like the chimney sweep from Mary Poppins. It was genuinely unlistenable, and if I had got this book as a credit on Audible I would have got it refunded. I fast forwarded most of the second half of the book and skimmed the transcript for the key plot details.
£7.99 I’ll never get back.
