I absolutely loved Yasmin Ali’s semi-autobiographical and empathetic tour of the past present and future of the energy system. The story telling style makes the book highly accessible and it’s full of interesting facts and vignettes which make it very engaging. I think of it as a people focused compliment to the late great David Mackay’s Sustainable Energy Without The Hot Air (SEWTHA). Yasmin Ali’s balanced and thoughtful but clear minded explanation of the energy transition is very helpful, she articulates well the consequences for existing industries and the people that work in them as well as the opportunities available and ahead of us. Finally, I found the epilogue on AI and the internet very timely, especially since I found the book through Google’s Gemini tool.
