'Essential reading' – Mark Manson, bestselling author of The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck

The instant Sunday Times #1 bestseller and New York Times bestseller, from the author of The Psychology of Money.

Simple lessons on harnessing the power of money to live a happier life.

Can money buy happiness? Yes. Can spending it make you happier? Absolutely. Yet, many of us struggle to unlock its full potential – either by spending on things that don't bring as much joy as they should, or by avoiding investments that would truly enhance our mental well-being.

In The Art of Spending Money, award-winning and global bestselling author Morgan Housel offers a refreshingly practical approach to managing wealth while finding deeper meaning and contentment. Instead of cookie-cutter financial advice, Housel provides you with psychological tools to navigate your personal relationship with money and optimise for happiness.

Discover why people often mistake envy for admiration, how to align your expectations with your income, and ways to invest in future happiness while avoiding regret. Learn about the dangers of social debt and embrace the radical idea that the fastest way to build wealth is by going slow.

The Art of Spending Money delves into the complexities that surround money – envy, social aspirations, identity, and insecurity – crucial aspects often missed in traditional financial books.

Armed with new insights into money and wealth, you’ll learn to sidestep common spending traps, make smarter investing choices, and wield money to its fullest potential to enhance your enjoyment of life.

Critics Review

  • A book that points out what we all secretly know but none of us want to admit: We have no idea how to spend our money. Essential reading for anyone who wants their money to actually improve their life.

Mark Manson, bestselling author of The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A F*ck

  • One of my favourite authors and storytellers of all time.

Steven Bartlett, The Diary of a CEO

  • The Art of Spending Money breaks down not only why the impulse to buy is so strong but why purchasing rarely cures the problem we're trying to solve. If you're looking to understand how to use your money to make you truly happy, here it is. You'll never shop the same way again.

Jean Chatzky, bestselling author of How To Money

  • The Art of Spending Money is not so much a sequel as the masterful completion of The Psychology of Money. When it comes to unfolding the long and complicated story of our relationship to money in an entertaining and useful manner, Morgan Housel is the GOAT.

Chris Davis, Chairman of Davis Advisors and Board Member at Coca-Cola and Berkshire Hathaway

A difficulty one to review. He is, by and large, right but it’s a sad reflection of society that this book is widely recommended and that grown people need to be told this stuff. The book reflects a society that is naively status driven and obsessed with outdoing neighbours and colleagues. Very repetitive, especially at start, but that reflects the shallow status-obsessed target audience.
