This series has really picked up from, what I think, was a few less gripping books in the middle. 'The Close' requires Maeve and Josh to go under cover and pose as a couple house sitting to help solve a murder. A great scenario for introducing a host of possible suspects and victims. Mostly though, it was to explore the relationship - private as opposed to professional - of our detective duo. In my review of book 9, I likened their situation to Strike and Robin, of the Robert Galbraith novels and this would be my wished for scenario for them as well. Jane Casey keeps us guessing but with only a couple of books to go, I feel a lot more confident about Maeve and Josh's future than I do about Strike and Robin's! This book was different to the rest of the series in that there was a male narrator too. He was the voice of the killer, sharing thoughts and plans with the reader. This worked well but I assume it was a one-off just for this book. I think The Close is the best one so far.
