Hildur Rúnarsdottir is the only police detective working on the isolated west coast of Iceland. She is desperate to forget her traumatic past by burying herself in her cases alongside her new trainee, Jakob Johanson. But Jakob's life has its own complications, and it soon becomes clear that neither can run from their pasts for long.
When a local man is found with his throat slit, underneath an avalanche that has buried much of the evidence, Hildur and Jakob must set their own problems aside and unravel the dark secrets to expose a killer . . .

Praise for Satu Rämö:

A complex Icelandic murder story that gently unfolds revealing not a myriad of characters but the Icelandic milieu. I learned much of history and tradition and ways of life within this bleak and hard landscape.
An intriguing, very well written book full of heart and stone.rogergiddings 2026-07-13 -

Loved this book. A rich world conjured. Characters are intriguing, the investigators are good company. The intertwining stories, histories are informative, introducing Icelandic culture and its complexities with a light touch. I’m sad that the rest of the books have yet to be translated, can’t wait for them to be published in English.
