What to expect
‘Fabulous’ – Daily Mail
‘Beautifully written, dark, twisted and often funny’ – Charlotte Levin
‘Dark and twisted, comic and toxic. I loved it!’ – Jenny Colgan
‘A witty exploration of humanity’ – People's Friend
Ruth and Muriel are best friends. And often, worst enemies.
Inseparable since they were little, Ruth and Muriel have shared everything.
Now in their seventies, fate has left them living together in a North London home, with Ruth caring for Muriel in her deteriorating health. They play Scrabble, argue and make up, and pass the days in monotony.
Until one afternoon, when Muriel makes an unexpected and sinister announcement:
‘In exactly seventy-two hours, I am going to die’.
The end might be in sight for Muriel, but that’s just the beginning of this story. Because these two old friends have seventy-six years of history between them – and more than one shocking secret . . .
A darkly comic novel about a lifelong (toxic) friendship and the very fine line between love and hate, The Final Hours of Muriel Hinchcliffe by Claire Parkin is perfect for fans of Joanna Cannon, Charlotte Levin and Jennie Godfrey.
Critics Review
-
It's dark and twisted, comic and toxic. I loved it!
Jenny Colgan, author of The Summer Skies
-
A twisty tale of toxic friendships and even some sneaky sedatives added to Heinz tomato soup.
Julie Mae Cohen, author of Bad Men
-
The characterisation is spot-on and the deeper we get into this beautifully drawn portrait of their intensely complicated, often horrific 'friendship', the more shocking and compelling the narrative is . . . Fabulous.
Daily Mail
-
I couldn’t get enough of this beautifully written, dark, twisted and often funny novel about a toxic friendship. It’s quirky and different in the best possible way and I loved it!
Charlotte Levin, author of If I Can't Have You
