What to expect

A compelling OMG love story, The Love of My Life is a bold, mysterious romance from Rosie Walsh, author of The Man Who Didn't Call.

'Dazzling' - Lisa Jewell, author of The Family Upstairs

I have held you every night for ten years and I didn’t even know your name. We have a child together. A dog, a house.

Who are you?

Emma loves her husband Leo and their young daughter Ruby: she’d do anything for them. But almost everything she's told them about herself is a lie.

And she might just have got away with it, if it weren’t for her husband’s job. Leo is an obituary writer and Emma is a well-known marine biologist. So, when she suffers a serious illness, Leo copes by doing what he knows best: reading and writing about her life.

But as he starts to unravel her past, he discovers the woman he loves doesn’t really exist. Even her name is made-up.

When the very darkest moments of Emma’s past life finally emerge, she must somehow prove to Leo that she really is the woman he always thought she was. But first, she must tell him about the love of her other life . . .

Critics Review

[A] compelling, painful romance, with the page-turning plot of a psychological thriller . . . Stunning

Daily Mail

The Love of My Life is a dazzling supernova of a book, which picks you up on line one and doesn’t let you go until the very end. Each chapter is filled with heart-breaking twists and revelations, and it’s brimming with human warmth and intelligence

Lisa Jewell, author of The Night She Disappeared

Fabulous! Unexpected, gripping and surprisingly heart wrenching. I couldn’t put it down

Jane Fallon, author of Just Got Real

Perfection. Every word. Every moment. Every emotion. Brave, heart-breaking, and hopeful. A breathtaking story

Lucy Clarke, author of The Castaways

A gorgeous, deeply satisfying novel

Fabulous Magazine (The Sun)

Rosie Walsh is the master of "just one more chapter". We read this in one sitting, unable to put it down. Just brilliant

Closer

Heart-wrenching, beautiful and thought-provoking; it made me cry, smile and hug my own loved ones a little tighter

Beth O'Leary, author of The Flatshare and The No-Show

Wise and profound, this is a story full of real, raw emotion and love

Daisy Buchanan, author of Careering

An absolute triumph

Jill Mansell, author of Promise Me

This is the story of the secrets within a marriage, told with real insight and compassion. The writing is vivid and tender, the plot so skilfully constructed, I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough and the characters have stayed with me, long after reaching the end

Lucy Diamond, author of Anything Could Happen

Brilliantly plotted and beautifully written, what really elevates Rosie Walsh’s book above the competition is the characters. Contradictory, flawed and entirely human, I loved and rooted for them like real people

Kate Riordan, author of The Heatwave

The Love of my Life is an extraordinary novel. Rosie Walsh combines the emotional punch of the best of romance with the page-turning twists of the most masterful thrillers. I was torn between pausing to weep, and ploughing on to solve the mysteries

Clare Pooley, author of The Authenticity Project

My favourite kind of thriller — gripping, heartbreaking and impossible to put down

Laura Dave, author of The Last Thing He Told Me

The Love of My Life is a poignant love story, a propulsive mystery and a cautionary tale about the secrets we keep. I couldn’t put it down

Greer Hendricks, author of The Wife Between Us

Walsh’s hugely compelling The Love of My Life instantly pulls you deep into the interior of a marriage. Part thriller, part mystery, part heart-wrenching love story, this is a treasure for book clubs everywhere

Ashley Audrain, author of The Push

I adored this full bodied mystery: love, loss and the clues hidden in all of our pasts. I was completely gripped

Gillian McAllister, author of Wrong Place Wrong Time

Nobody marries suspense and tenderness quite like Rosie Walsh. Formidably complex and fiendishly clever, The Love of My Life takes the emotional thriller to a whole new level. Both haunting and gripping, it’s a novel as full of twists as it is heart, a gorgeously smart exploration of memory, mystery, and the devotion we show to the people we love. A breathtaking novel from a superbly talented author

Emma Stonex, author of The Lamplighters

With a twisty mystery woven around a love story of gut-wrenching power, this captivating novel delivers on every level

Isabelle Broom, Heat

[A] winning combination of big emotions and didn’t-see-that-coming twist

Book 3.0
Narration 1.0

Unfortunately, I couldn't get into the story at all - nothing to do with the novel itself but with this distractingly annoying audio version.
Bad enough that the male narrator's Emma sounded like a terrified toddler with a sore throat. Worse, though, the female narrator, throughout, sounded like she was auditioning for The Sound of Music. I expected her to burst into song at any moment. If she wasn't using an often shrill and shouty sing-song tone - appropriate at best for the narration of children's books, NOT for adults' - she tried (and equally failed) herself at sounding dramatic. Yet instead of pathos we got pathetic. The entire narration was so silly and exaggerated that it completely spoiled the book for me.
The only good thing that came out of it is that I was starkly reminded to use the listening sample facility in future before risking wasting money on a book. I certainly won't be wasting any on novels narrated by Imogen Church in the future. I hope she'll take my advice and narrates children's literature only from now on. At least a toddler might find the silly intonation funny, though I wouldn't bet on it.
