I love these books. They capture the essence of the gumshoe private investigator and transport it into supernatural Britain with aplomb. There are engaging recurrent characters such as Nicky the paranoid zombie, DCI Coldwood, and Castor’s two long time friends Pen and Rafi - unfortunately inhabited by a demon, as well as the succubus Juliet. Each book has a case to be solved as its main driver, but the real fun is the long arcs over several books.

Now, I haven’t mentioned the narration and that may put some people off. They are read in a received English accent by someone who doesn’t always know how the British pronounce places, businesses, jargon etc. and the regional accents are a bit painful to a native ear. I would encourage getting past this if you can because these stories are worth the effort.
