What to expect
When a witch mistakes a prince for a girl, a kingdom ignites.
Prince Anryn of Ammar has spent his life striving to please his father, the legendary Lightning King. He studies, fences, burns witches at the stake. But when assassins strike, he is left wounded and alone in the mountains, wondering if his father ordered his death.
There he meets Maertyn Blackfire, a cursed witch who has lived too long. In Anryn he sees what no one else dares: a curse like his own, trapping a woman’s soul in a man’s body. Bound by survival, Maertyn vows to protect the prince on a quest to uncover the would-be killer.
At court, Lady Beatrice prepares to wed Anryn. She defies Ammar’s suffocating customs, earning the enmity of her mother-in-law and the friendship of the mysterious Ciamon Caelt, who listens for any word of Anryn.
When the assassin comes to the wedding, Anryn must embrace the witchcraft he was taught to hate to survive. But the Lightning King suffers no witch to live—not even the immortal Maertyn.
Caught between faith and fire, the prince, the witch, and the bride must choose what to sacrifice and who to save… or see their kingdom turned to ash.
