What to expect
In the sleepy village of Cookingdean, Dr Nell Ward is busy working in the grounds of a local manor house. Whilst inspecting an old tunnel, she did not expect to overhear a murder. As the only person with any clues as to what happened, Nell soon finds herself in the middle of the investigation.
Desperate to clear her name Nell, along with her colleague Adam, set out solving the murder using their skills as ecologists to uncover details no one else would notice. But it soon becomes clear that playing Agatha Christie is much harder than it might, at first appear...

Nice mystery, but I’d have liked more ecological content than romance - that’s just me ! Great narration

3.5 ⭐️ = Quite Good.
This might not have been the most exciting or action packed murder mystery that I’ve read, but it was certainly one of the most believable, and one with a host of likeable characters.
Written at quite a sedate pace, enabling you to digest the plot fairly well.
I would’ve liked a little more tension, but very readable all the same.Julie7 2026-07-13 -

Really enjoyed listening to this book! Good characters and interesting story - a bit different from the usual British murder story. The reveal was a little confusing, but overall a good plot engagingly narrated. The ecologist angle was brilliant - we need more advocacy for nature in all stories!

Nice light romance-crime with interesting insight in ecology. Also, with a title which is impossible to translate into any other language. 😅

Looking forward to more!
I'm very impressed by the narration, and I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style, the characters, the folding in of ecology facts both as a way to further the plot and to give us a sense of the protagonist's keen observational and analytical skills and overall competence.orangedelgado 2024-11-19 -
