Critics Review

Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award Naxos Audiobooks has consistently found ways to enrich audiobooks with music. Ballet Stories takes this skill to a new height. Presenting the storylines of five classical ballets – Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia, The Nutcracker and Giselle – former ballerina and narrator Jenny Agutter personally delivers a tour of the stories. She could be sitting in the audience beside you. The lively text is rich with detail and imagery to describe the scenes. The music punctuates and enlivens; the sound is perfect – clear, beautifully edited and mixed. Liner notes on the history of ballet and Agutter’s own involvement with the art round out an exceptional program. The notes could have been recorded into the program itself. A wonderful gift for families to enjoy.
