Chloe Sommer does an amazing job on the narration, bringing lots of accents and plenty of main character snark to life.

I’m afraid I could not get on with this book. It might be due to the Narrator, who I thought was very poor. It is just my opinion of course, but I found her reading quite monotonous, plus she often missed the point of sentences and read them with the wrong emphasis. A lot of the accents she put on were terrible. Quite early on, I just thought: I don’t care about any of these people. Perhaps I would have got on with it better if I had read the actual book myself, with the correct sentence emphasis and without the terrible accents?
But as it was, I actually had to give up about a quarter of the way in. I just couldn’t take any more long, mundane descriptions of a very self-satisfied young woman with delusions of grandeur, going about her daily life, with escalating murderous intent. I don’t mind an unsympathetic protagonist, but they do have to be interesting. I’m afraid I was bored.
If you are considering this book, I would say listen carefully to the sample before buying it, to make sure you can get on with the narrator.A.Reader 2026-05-16
