My first purchase on xigxag and a solid starter. I purchased this by mistake as I believed I was buying the second part of the Paddy Mayne trilogy! However, this audiobook was a stand alone triumph for me. The beginning chapters set the scene and puts the latter part of the Italian campaign into context before focussing on the raid against the German HQ. The level of research is impressive as always and stimulates further avenues of research to explore by the end of the book.
The main conclusion after reading & listening to the author’s books is that, like Max Hastings’ work, they are easy to follow and not overloaded with too much information where it starts to lose focus. They allow the reader to do a deeper dive outside of the book if required. Highly recommended to either read or listen too. The narration compliments the high standard of the overall package here.
