Synopsis
Written between 1797 and 1798 and published in the first edition of Lyrical Ballads, the poem is one of Coleridge's most significant works and a cornerstone of British Romantic literature. It recounts the tale of an old sailor, the Ancient Mariner, who stops a man on his way to a wedding to narrate his extraordinary sea voyage.
