Absolutely loved this book. The author takes you on his quest to see Scottish wildlife over the course of one winter. Along the way, on various excursions, he his joined by a couple of friends on occasion as they hike out for weekend walks and stay in many bothys along the way, and they also encounter other visitors at times in the bothys. One encounter with a young couple in their 20s from Cornwall is really reassuring that the younger generations (the author is in his 60s) can see how the Highlands have been mismanaged to accommodate grouse shooting, but a Danish billionaire has bought up large swathes of land and is reversing the decline. He's not the only one. There's plenty of historical context and many a detail about the affect of global warming and grouse management on other species. I've listened half a dozen times. It's a great listen.
